CONTEST PREP TIMEFRAME By MaryAnn Pangelinan
Being overwhelmed by the pressures and expectations from spectators may lead competitors to loose focus on what needs to be done to ensure an organized, stress free contest prep. Considering the following timeframe and preparations can help alleviate the pressures that come along with competitions.
To the competitor:
Your professional advisor/coach should be able to set realistic timeframes depending on your progress. Once your plan has been developed it is vital that you don't veer from it. If you do, this will only cause more problems and delays in your progress. Trust is a big factor here. Trust in your plan, trust in your advisor/coach.

Tanning Recommendation
- Start slow, 1 hr. 2x/week.
- Use the tiniest bikini possible, goal is to prevent or minimize tan lines.
- Drink a lot of water during tanning session; this will help you sweat more.
- Keep your skin moisturized with whatever tanning lotion or oil you are using, continuously reapplying and mixing into your sweat.
- Use a spray bottle to spray water onto your body during tanning to keep moisture on your skin, this will darken your tan, keeps skin looking healthy, and as you get better, it will prevent your skin from burning.
- Gradually increase sun exposure.
**It is important to stop tanning 5-7 days prior contest to allow skin to heal so that water under the skin does not affect "drying up" period.
Protan Application Recommendation
- Begin application process 2 days prior to contest.
- Thoroughly remove hair from body e.g. arms, legs, bikini area, etc.
- Exfoliate skin and dry up completely
- Using a large cosmetic sponge or pad, apply Protan onto entire body one area at a time. For example, left arm first, right arm second, chest area third, back area forth, etc.
Be careful when application onto face in case of sensitivity. Be aware that hands and feet areas darkens quicker/easier, so no extra coat may be needed.
- Once Protan is applied onto entire body, dry up for 45 minutes and then repeat the process.
Before going to bed, rise (no scrubbing-just rise off top layer) and cover yourself completely using long sleeve and long pants before going to bed.
- Continue the application process the following day until you achieve desired color.
Always touch up when necessary. It is recommended that you bring your left over Protan and an applicator to the contest in case you may need to touch up back stage.
